Fitness Activities the Whole Family

Spring is finally here and it’s the perfect time to get off the couch and start exercising. It’s not just adults who need to make an effort after the winter months. It can be hard for kids to get moving too when they’ve become used to a more sedentary lifestyle. For this reason, it is not a bad idea to perform fitness activities for the whole family. Even stop learning, for this, it is a good idea to get a home tutor

According to guidelines, children and teenagers need around 60 mins of moderate to intense physical activity most days of the week. The best way to make sure your child is getting enough exercise is to find things the whole family can enjoy together.

These activities are fun, easy and don’t cost a cent:

Take a Hike

Walking with your child is a lovely way to spend a spring day. You can explore bushwalking tracks, take the dog for a stroll on a pet-friendly beach or enjoy a local park.

Why not ditch the car and take public transport to a place you don’t know well and explore it on foot? Also keep your eye out for charity walks in your area which are an enjoyable way to raise money for worthy causes.

Try to incorporate stairs and hills in your walk to raise your heart rates. People tend to stop taking walks as the summer heat sets in, but a family stroll on a summer evening is a wonderful way to spend time together.

Sports Night

One of the joys of spring and summer is the longer days, so make the most of them by spending time outdoors with your family. You don’t even need to leave the house as it’s easy to have fun in your own backyard with a weekly sports night.

Simple games like cricket, frisbee, ping pong and lawn twister are always winners. Keep it interesting by playing something different each week and let kids choose.

Just Dance

Kids love it when adults let their hair down and have fun with them, so move the furniture, throw back the rug and get dancing. Your child can teach you some moves, or you can learn some together using a game like Just Dance.

Dancing is an excellent cardio workout that will burn off heaps of energy. It’s also a great mood-booster!

Clean-Up Days

Cleaning up the neighborhood doesn’t sound like much fun for kids, but these council-run days can be surprisingly rewarding. It’s a good opportunity to get outside and meet new people while doing something positive together for your community.

To find out when a cleanup day is happening in your area, follow your local council on Facebook or check out their website for upcoming events.

Enjoy the Garden

If you live in a house, your yard needs constant maintenance. Most parents see this as a chore, but you can turn it into a family-friendly activity by including children. Kids can rake leaves, water plants and dig out weeds.

Gardening is a good way to get them off devices and outdoors, enjoying the warmer weather. You might even consider planting a vegetable patch for your child to take care of as this will help them develop STEM skills and give them a sense of responsibility.

These simple activities will help keep the whole family healthy over spring and summer!
